Workshop and Q&A Videos

SEP 24 22 Parent2Thrive #1: Trauma: Neurobiology and Resilience

This workshop introduces the fundamental connections between childhood trauma, the autonomic nervous system, and the development of resilience in adulthood. It begins by describing how chronic dysregulation caused by early-life adversity can influence lifelong behavior patterns and survival mechanisms. Emphasis is placed on understanding co-regulation—how a regulated adult or surrogate neurobiological “NB” parent figure can help soothe a dysregulated child—and how this scaffolds the eventual ability to self-regulate. Participants learn that certain maladaptive behaviors and addictions often arise from attempts to calm persistent nervous system stress, not from inherent flaws or moral failings. Throughout the session, practical steps for building resilience are presented, such as examining personal triggers, documenting recurring toxic feelings, and adopting a structured parenting approach. By reframing trauma through a non-blaming, neurobiological lens, the workshop highlights realistic pathways for gradually healing past wounds and achieving a more integrated, secure sense of self.

OCT 1 22 #1: Trauma Neurobiology & Resilience: Homework Session

In this Q&A session, participants explore lingering questions from a trauma and resilience workshop, focusing on neurobiology, inner parenting, and the concept of a benevolent life force. They discuss personal experiences of chronic dysregulation in childhood, the protective roles of dissociation and self-soothing attempts, and the connection between unresolved early experiences and adult challenges with intimacy. The conversation addresses stigma and shame, offering insights into how co-regulation and a committed inner parent can help release deep-rooted self-blame. The group also examines childhood sexuality, reflecting on how early masturbation might be a survival strategy rather than simply a source of pleasure. Throughout, participants emphasize the transformative power of integrating trauma awareness, resilience-based parenting approaches, and a supportive community. The session concludes with collective reflections on healing as an ongoing journey that paves the way for secure relationships, personal empowerment, and a renewed sense of purpose.
